Rayan Abad at HEC Montréal Named Top Student Investor In Canada

Student outperforms 1,200 competitors to win $10,000 in a CIBC Investor’s Edge account.

TORONTO, April 16, 2019 – Capitalize for Kids is pleased to announce the winner of the Capitalize for Kids Student Challenge presented by CIBC Investor’s Edge. More than 1,200 post-secondary students from across Canada signed up to compete in the annual challenge. Participants had six months to build a portfolio of real securities on an industry-leading trading platform with $1 million in virtual currency.

At the end of the competition period, Rayan Abad from HEC Montreal was named the top student investor in Canada. “I bought Gene Therapy stocks with upcoming catalysts and was able to profitably close out my positions after the industry’s M&A activity had picked up in late February,” said Mr. Abad about his strategy in the competition. As the winner of the competition, he will receive a $10,000 cash credit applied to a CIBC Investor’s Edge account.

To be eligible to compete, participants fundraise for kids’ mental health. The money raised from the competition supports Capitalize for Kids’ work to reduce waitlists and improve access to youth mental health services. “We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of our participants and their supporters,” said Quentin Broad, Managing Director of Capitalize for Kids. “Their donations will ensure that young people in Canada get the help they need when they need it.

“CIBC Investor’s Edge is proud to partner with Capitalize for Kids on this challenge, so that together we can make an impact on youth’s mental health issues across Canada,” said Lee Bennett, Senior Vice President, Direct Investing & Advice, CIBC. “We’re excited to give students an opportunity to highlight their investing skills while also supporting this important cause.”

ABOUT CAPITALIZE FOR KIDS
